Proper identification is required by all citizens to conduct financial business, purchase merchandise; make application for work, social benefits and travel.

 Identity theft destroys the lives of citizens.

     ·        Personal information is compromised.
     ·        Credit is destroyed by criminals making purchases on credit.
     ·        Identity theft is difficult to detect.
            
    §        Children’s stolen SSN not discovered until the child applies for   
                     a school loan, a credit card or the IRS sends a notice to pay.

§        Same SSN used by multiple criminals.
     ·        Requires months if not years, extreme effort and finances to correct.

What can we accomplish to remedy the problem of identity theft?
     ·        Write and telephone elected officials to express concerns.
     ·        Form citizen action groups to demand government follow existing laws.

§        Require employers verify employee identification by using the

     DHS employee identification verification system, (E-Verify).

§        Citizen taxes to be used to pay City contracts accomplished only by contractors and sub-contractors who use E-Verify to verify their employee’s identification.
